Great Lakes Shipyard, part of the Great Lakes Group, has clinched contracts to repair a tug and hopper barge for US-based owner Geo Gradel & Co.
Under the contracts, Great Lakes Shipyard will drydock and repair tugboat John Francis during the next two months. The 22m tug has 1,800 horse power and twin propellers. The tugboat was hauled out using the 770-MT Mobile Marine Travelift on 19 January.
Great Lakes Shipyard is also drydocking and repairing hopper barge Mobro 2000 for Geo Gradel & Co. This barge requires significant metal repairs due to damage caused during workboat operations. The shipyard said the work would be completed during March this year. The barge is 55m long by 16m wide, with 1,500 tonnes capacity.
Geo Gradel & Co’s main focus is mechanical dredging. It has accumulated a fleet of 10 tugs and 25 barges, plus a compliment of cranes and excavators.
