Campbell Transportation Co is ramping up its operations in US inland towage by acquiring assets from rival towage operators. According to reports in the US, Campbell is purchasing four towboats, more than 150 barges and affreightment contracts for transporting bulk cargoes along a US river system.

This is an agreement with American Commercial Barge Line to acquire operations along the Ohio River system. The deal is expected to be completed by the end of June, although it is subject to customary closing conditions.

Also during this quarter, Campbell acquired tug Norman L Snodgrass from AEP River Operations and renamed it Tommy H. This is a 1994-built, twin screw towboat with 3,000hp.

Tommy H has a pair of GM 12-645E6 main engines. It commenced line haul services at the beginning of May.

Campbell provides marine transportation, tank barge and harbour services. It also has its own shipyard for repair services and crane barges for construction projects. It operates a fleet of around 50 towboats and more than 1,000 barges on US inland waterways.
